A Dutch Delft blue and white two-handled tulipière section
Circa 1690, probably by De Grieksche A
The baluster body with a continuous scene of putti at various pursuits in a garden with exotic birds and large botanical flowers, e.g. tulips, hydrangea, chrysanthemums, roses and carnations, beneath a band of lotus-type floral motifs reserved with stylised flowers, the waisted neck with a band of flowers and birds beneath a swollen part reserved with two quatrefoil cartouches depicting dragons, the high loop handles moulded as intertwined dotted serpents (one handle restored)

Lot Essay

A similar tulipière marked for De Grieksche A factory is in the royal palace Het Loo, Apeldoorn from the collection of Queen Mary II and Willem III, Prince of Orange. This vase is supported by a gadrooned lower section and has an upper section with two rows of nozzles (104 cm. high overall) (see A.M.L.E. Erkelens, Ceramics at Het Loo from the time of William and Mary, Zwolle, 1996, p. 45).
