Original textured blue leather, the upper cover with deeply inset rectangular blue cloth panel, titled in gilt and with a design (after Thorburn) of nesting little auks in gilded semi-relief, spine gilt, gilt edges. A very fine copy of this rare work on the birds of Spitsbergen. The plates include 11 coloured after Keulemans (1 chromolithographed), 12 chromolithographs of heads and beaks by H.Schultze and 10 coloured plates of eggs (1 chromolithographed) after G.Krause.
