Lappland, dess natur och folk, efter fyra somrars vandringar i bilder och text skildrade. Stockholm: C.E.Fritzes Bokhandel and others, 1866. Oblong folio (319 x 455mm). 21 tinted or colour-printed lithographic plates, 9 with touches of hand-colouring, 19 mounted, printed by Abraham Lundquist & Co. after Pettersson, folding map, wood-engraved illustrations. (The ninth plate with neatly repaired tear to mount, old folds to map, some light spotting to upper blank margins of text.) Contemporary speckled half sheep gilt (spine and extremities slightly rubbed).

A fine copy of this selection of views of the home of the Laplanders or Saami, Europe's only indigenous people. Lapland is now defined as a region of northern Finland (with an area of just under 100,000 square kilometres) but the 70,000 or so Saami live in an area that encompasses parts of Finland, Sweden, Norway and Russia.
