Lot Essay

Reviewing Henry's 1837 Dublin exhibition, the Irish Independent (12 November) commented that this work was 'quite unlike' the artist's usual style. 'It is a warm, friendly, delightfully intimate study of a typical Kerry landscape of the type that is changing rapidly,' it continued. 'One feels in looking at it that the artist is immensely fond of these quaint thatched cottages. The pattern of the picture is very attractive and the spirit of the landscape is caught with rare insight.' In the Kingdom of Kerry was reproduced as a colour print by Combridge, Dublin, circa 1937.
