Lot Essay

Barton, born in Ireland, accompanied Mildred Anne Butler (see lot 72) to London to study under Paul Naftel. She was particularly noted for the atmospheric effects she brought into her townscapes and became well known in Dublin and London, becoming a full member of the Royal Watercolour Society in 1911.

A watercolour by Rose Barton was sold Christie's, London, 19 May 2000, lot 143 (£10,575).
