Lot Essay

This picture has been examined through infra-red reflectography by Mr. P. van den Brink of the Bonnefantenmuseum, Maastricht, on 30 January 2002. Under those conditions, some underdrawing is visible, in particular around Delilah's face and dress, showing minor alterations in the painted composition. Mr. van den Brink kindly pointed out that the underdrawing was consistent with that found in the works of Pieter Pietersz. and his studio.
