A CYPRIOT BLACK-TOPPED RED POLISHED WARE TULIP BOWL
EARLY BRONZE AGE, CIRCA 2500-2000 B.C.
The deep bowl tapered to pierced pointed base, two bucranial lugs protruding above the rim, with a pair of pinched everted lugs between them, the body with incised geometric decoration, groups of dotted semicircles around the rim, a frieze of chequered lozenges and encircling lines below, repaired with restoration, 7¼ in. (18.5 cm.) high; a Red-and-Black Polished Ware bowl with tulip base, a short trough spout and pierced lug opposite, a frieze of incised geometric motifs around the body, repaired with restoration; and another similar, with a diminutive rim lug and a pierced lug opposite, repaired, both Early Bronze Age, 2500-1900 B.C., both 3¾ in. (9 cm.) high (3)

These so-called 'tulip' bowls (item one) are distinctly mammiform, incised with the necklaces of the Mother Goddess around the rim, possibly suggesting that they were used for milk offerings.
