CIRCA 6TH-7TH CENTURY A.D.
Perhaps from a polycandelon, in the form of a central Chi-Rho surmounted by a cross and bordered by suspension loops. 6 5/8 in. (16.8 cm.) high; a red terracotta fragment with the upper part of a priest or saint framed by a columned arch, hand raised in benediction; a North African red terracotta corner fragment decorated with a Chi-Rho monogram in relief with a pendant Alpha and Omega below the arms of the cross; a similar Chi-Rho red terracotta disc, 4 in. (10.2 cm.) across max.; a red terracotta two-handled flask, 6 in. (15.2 cm.) high; a similar single-handled jug with punched circles on the shoulder, handle repaired, 5 1/8 in. (13 cm.) high; a miniature red terracotta single-handled jar, 2 in. (5 cm.) high; two red terracotta shallow bowls, 11¼ and 6½ in. (28.5 and 16.5 cm.) diam.; a Roman terracotta mortarium, 9 in. (22.8 cm.) diam., all mainly circa 2nd-6th Century A.D.; a Byzantine style glazed terracotta sgraffito footed bowl with hexagonal rim, 5½ in. (14 cm.) across; an alabaster disc-shaped stamp with a cross on one side, 4 1/8 in. (10.5 cm.) diam.; and a Roman lead-glazed skyphos with pine-cone scale decoration, repaired, circa 1st Century B.C./A.D., 5 in. (12.7 cm.) high (13)
