AN EGYPTIAN 'AMARNA' DECORATED SANDSTONE RELIEF FRAGMENT
REIGN OF AKHENATEN, 1353-1335 B.C.
Depicting the 'aten' or sun-disk from which rays radiate downwards onto a supported seated figure of Maat (cosmic balance), on either side faint traces of two columns of hieroglyphs and two parallel royal cartouches, in the register above feet moving towards each other, mounted, 9 x 13¼ in. (23 x 34 cm.); and an Egyptian limestone funerary relief showing a husband and wife adoring the god Osiris, the female wearing a scented cone on her head, her arms upheld in worship, her husband in front with similar cone pouring out a libation over a table of offerings, traces of hieroglyphs above, circa 1250 B.C., mounted, 17¼ in. (44 cm.) high (2)
