Lot Essay

Cf. S. H. Auth, Ancient Art at the Newark Museum, Newark, 1976, p. 128, no. 158 for a flask with similar trapped threads. These were created by the glassblower jabbing the glass bubble at intervals with a sharp implement before inflating it.
