The rectangular top with three divisions above two cedar lined frieze drawers on turned, tapering legs with castors, the top drawer stamped 'C.HINDLEY & SONS 134 OXFORD ST. LONDON 10148', the castors stamped 'COPE & COLLINSON PATENT STRONG'

Prior to their acquisition of the cabinet-makers Miles & Edwards of 134 Oxford Street in 1844, C.Hindley & Sons were carpet, rug and floor manufacturers. Items stamped 'C.HINDLEY & SONS 134 OXFORD STREET' can be dated to after 1844. The activities of the firm, who were active from 1817 - 1892, are discussed in L.Microulis, 'Charles Hindley & Sons, London House Furnishers of the Nineteenth Century', The Bard Studies in the Decorative Arts, vol.5, no.2, 1998, pp. 69-96.
