A GILT-COPPER-MOUNTED SOUTH STAFFORDSHIRE ENAMEL NECESSAIRE AND PINK-GROUND ETUI
Circa 1780
The first of cartouche form, the top as a trefoil, one side enamelled with billing doves, the other a putto emblematic of love, the lower portion with a figure in a turban painting and a woman draped in pink and holding a bunch of grapes, each scene reserved within moulded pale lavender rocaille scrolls and shells enriched in gilt and white, the interior fitted for various tools and retaining the ivory hinged tablet, 4¼in. (10.7cm.) high; the etui painted top and bottom with landscapes reserved within white foliate scrolls on the pink ground further enamelled in while with an oversall diaper pattern, 4½in.
