Lot Essay

The marks indicate that these terrapin serving spoons were made as part of a special order, probably along with the pair of tureens in the previous lot. A terrapin spoon with a similar design and form is shown in an archival photograph of the Martelé line in Dr. L.J. Pristo's book Martelé Gorham's Nouveau Art Silver, 2001, p. 114.
