Lot Essay

The distinctive carving to the seat-rail is reminiscent of the carving of Jean-Baptiste Cresson, maître 1738. A chair with similar light carved decoration to the seat-rail is illustrated in P. Verlet, French Cabinetmakers of the Eighteenth Century, Paris, 1963, p.88, plate 3.
