A SEVRES CUP AND SAUCER (GOBELET 'LITRON' ET SOUCOUPE, 3EME GRANDEUR)
Blue interlaced L's to both, the cup with date letters mm for 1789, painter's mark for Taillandier, gilder's mark for L'écot; the saucer with date letters ii for 1786, painter's mark for Niquet, gilder's mark for Prévost
Reserved with a double-scallop band in which is painted paired gilt and puce lines, a berried laurel vine entwined around each centering single rose and cornflower blossoms painted between the lines, the whole edged with blue enamel and gilt bands
2 3/8in. (6cm.) high, the cup; 4¾in. (12cm.) diam., the saucer (2)

Lot Essay

Judging from the disparate date letters and decorating marks on these two pieces, the cup is likely either a slightly later factory replacement or the two are from a small service made over a period of three years.
