The center with the crowned monogram CL in pink roses and cornflowers, the border with putti in clouds reserved within oval gilt ciselé bands alternate with baskets of flowers, the shaped gilt line rim with a further blue enamel band gilt with laurel, edged with gilt foliate scrolls and suspending berried laurel wreaths at the center of each side

Lot Essay

The present plate was made for a service given by Louis XV to Queen Marie-Caroline of Naples and the Two-Sicilies upon the birth of her daughter Charlotte Louise for whom the king stood as godfather. Examples from this service are in the collections of the Louvre and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. Cf.
