Lot Essay

This pattern, used at Sèvres as early as 1756, was made famous by the service given to the Elector Palatine in 1760 and now in the Residenzmuseum, Munich.

The painter's mark of a stiff cross with serifs at the ends has only recently been confirmed by David Peter's as that of Jacques-François Micaud, père. See David Peters, Decorator and Date Marks on C18th Vincennes and Sèvres Porcelain, privately printed, 1997, pp. 53, 77.
