Lot Essay

See The Collection of Otto-Charles Zieseniss, Christies, Paris, 6 December 2001, lot 238 for an identically decorated plate, with date letter q and painted by Tandart, that was identified as likely from the service described in the factory sales records as ruban bleu céleste and ordered by Mme. Du Barry's chargé d'affaires Jean-Baptiste Buffaut. Soon after its delivery, the service was shipped to England by Mme. Du Barry.

Another plate from the service is in the collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris. Cf. Françoise Boisgibault, "Le ruban dans la ciramique, des symbols au raffinements décoratifs", L'Estampille-Objet d'Art, October 2001, no. 362, illus. P. 72, no. 8
