Circa 1740, blue crossed swords mark
Of octagonal section with alternating convex and concave facets, with a horizontal moulded band below the rim and a band of alternating convex and concave moulded gilt gadroons around the centre, to the edge of the waisted foot and the rim of the domed cover, with a triple-scroll ear-shaped handle with foliage thumbpiece, the upper rim with a U-shaped aperture and a grinning bearded mask spout, the concave facets with gilt interlocking foliage scrolls, the convex facets with Kakiemon flower-sprays to the upper part and quayside scenes with merchants, ships and galleons below, the lower part with a band of moulded fluted gilt gadroons, the cover similarly decorated with quayside scenes alternating with gilt foliage scrolls about a pine-cone finial
