2Variously known as the Monarch Junior or New Style No. 4, this Gramophone was the 'grown-up' version of the original trade-mark model, using essentially the same motor but mounted entirely within the case. Apart from the fixing of the extension arm (with a wingnut and a brass plate), this example appears to be in very original condition; it is therefore likely that the absence of any G & T transfer is original, and the machine was perhaps sold off to the trade for use as a cheap 'own brand' product, around 1905. Many cycle dealers also dealt in talking machines; the transfer in this case is clearly designed for a bicycle frame.
