Lot Essay

The prominent church steeples in the first view, on the right of the Monument, are (from left to right): St. Magnus, St. Margaret Pattern's and St. Dunstan's-in-the-East.

The view of Old London Bridge taken from the southwest was probably painted during the great frost of 1811.

Daniel Turner was a best known for his views of London's riverside. He was a pupil of John Jones (c.1740-c.1797), the mezzotint engraver, and lived in Millbank. He exhibited London views at the Royal Academy from 1796-1801.
