Vice-Admiral Nathan Brunton joined the Royal Navy as a young man and was made Lieutenant in 1777, being promoted Captain in 1783. Achieving flag rank in 1805, his final promotion to Vice-Admiral of the Red came in June 1814 but he died in November the same year.
