WEBERN, Anton von (1883-1945). Autograph postcard signed ("Webern"), to Helene Berg, Maria Enzersdorf, 25 January 1936. 2 pages, oblong 8vo, integral autograph address-panel, written in a small elegant hand in ink, in German, framed.
WEBERN WRITES TO BERG'S WIDOW A FEW WEEKS AFTER HIS DEATH
A sensitive letter to Helene Berg, written only a month after her husband's death at the end of 1935, by one of his closest fellow composers who shared the same aesthetic ideals expressed in serialism and atonality. Webern explains at length how he and his wife are unable to meet Helene on the following Monday, giving specific reasons, describing the activities of his wife and sending their love. Clearly anxious to show consideration for their "Hochverehrte, liebste Helene," Webern is also trying to accommodate his own busy schedule.
Correspondence of Webern is very rare on the market.
