Volume one in 2 parts (only), 2o (538 x 345 mm). Engraved hand-colored titles and 120 double-page engraved maps, some folding, COLORED BY A CONTEMPORARY HAND. (Title reinforced along inner margin, engraved title of first part cut and inlaid to size, approximatly 20 maps including maps of the World and Europe with light marginal repairs, touching just a few plate margins, light marginal dampstaining at beginning and end.) Publisher's vellum panelled in gilt, the inner panel with elaborate blocked cornerpieces surrounding a central lozenge-shaped arabesque, the flat-backed spine divided into eight compartments, remnants of cloth ties, gilt edges.

Engraved titles of the first part in Dutch with printed title and text in Latin. This first volume of the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum comprises maps of the World, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Germany and Holland. Koeman Bl 23B.
