CATHER, Willa (1873-1947). Typed letter signed ("Willa S. Cather") with 37-word autograph addition, to C.P. Connolly, New York, 23 June 1906. 1 page, 4to. Writing as editor of McClure's Magazine, Cather discusses a book that is to be printed in the Magazine: "I am afraid I may have to call on you pretty often for side lights but I shall go ahead and do the best I can to make the story just as good as it can be. The greatest difficulty of course is to shape it advantageously for serial publication." In an autograph addition, she writes: "I dont know whether I shall be able to get up the proper enthusiasm when I begin to work at the story alone again, because you were able to supply a good deal of that for me." -- CATHER. Autograph note signed ("Willa Cather"), n.p., n.d. 1 page, oblong 16mo, personal card. Cather clarifies the pronunciation of her name: "The name 'Cather' should be pronounced to rhyme with the words 'gather' 'lather', 'rather' etc. Slight accent on final syllable." -- CATHER. Autograph letter signed ("Willa Cather") to Mr. McClure, London, 18 May 1909. 1½ pages, 8vo. Cather explains that her return will be delayed after a vacation in London: "I expect to start...as soon as George Meredith's funeral is over...I find a great deal to do here, moreover, and cannot see any way to get things closed up before the end of the week." -- CATHER. Autograph letter signed ("Willa Cather") to Pauline Boldwick, New York, 18 April, n.y. 1 page, 8vo, personal stationery. Cather arranges a time when notes can be delivered to her. -- CATHER.
