John Howard, 15th Earl of Suffolk and 9th Earl of Berkshire, served as a General in the American War of Independence. He married Julia (d. 1819), daughter of John Gaskarth of Penrith in 1774 and had issue.
Another version of this enamel, signed and dated 1820, was sold in the Bone Collection, 1832, lot 62...
