Ludwig Rudolf (1671-1735) was the youngest son of the famous Duke Anton Ulrich of Brunswick and ruled in Wolfenbüttel from 1731 to 1735. In 1690, he was married to Christine-Luise Princess of Öttingen. For three of his four daughters he arranged brilliant diplomatic marriages: one was married to the future Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI and thus became the mother of Empress Maria-Theresia, one married the less fortunate Tsarevich Alexis of Russia, and one was married to her cousin the Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg.
