A SWISS ENAMEL AND GOLD MUSICAL SNUFF-BOX
Geneva under French occupation, circa 1809-1814, with the 'petite récense' mark for the French Departments 1809-1814, the enamel plaque workshop of Jean-Louis Richter, circa 1810
Rectangular box with rounded corners, the cover inset with a rectangular enamel plaque finely painted with a Swiss lakeside view, within a narrow gold border stamped with stylized acanthus, the matted gold border stamped with a frieze of blue enamelled polished gold stylized flowerheads and foliate scrolls, the four sides and base with similarly framed panels engine-turned with a pattern of small concentric discs enclosing quatrefoils, the corners of the sides stamped with laurel wreathes enclosing blue enamelled vertical shuttles with taille d'épargne gold rosettes, the inside with cylinder musical movemenent, the front side panel with lever lower right and a keyhole in the base panel lower left.

Provenance
According to a German inscription engraved at the inside of the base, taken as a booty from Napoleon's coach after the battle of Waterloo, on 18 June 1815.
