A MAGNIFICENT PRIVATE COLLECTION OF FINE WINES, INCLUDING CLASSED-GROWTH BORDEAUX, EXCELLENT BURGUNDY, RARE RHONE, SUPERB SPANISH AND ITALIAN WINES, NEW WORLD AND A NOTABLE SELECTION OF FINEST CHAMPAGNE
The following lots 634 to 982 have been recently shipped from ideal cellarage on the Continent where the bottles have lain undisturbed since original purchase. The collection is composed of top-quality claret, including first-growths from the top 1980s vintages, rare Graves and Sauternes, excellent Burgundy, including 6 dozen Musigny Vieilles Vignes from the great 1985 vintage, rare wines from Spain and Italy and marvellous Champagne. The owner has taken great care to purhase the wines from the most reputable sources and all the wines have been checked by Christie's staff at the cellar and at our warehouse

Fonseca--Vintage 1985
Tasting note: Showing great potential two years after the vintage and that first impression borne out by subsequent tastings. Still opaque and youthful-looking in the mid-1990s, fragrant, low-keyed, good flesh, glorious flavour. Four recent notes in different places (London, Bruges, Chicago) and contexts (tastings, lectures, dinners) all but one full of praise, the exception being alongside Graham and Taylor.
