Left hand drive.
A nearly year-long fanfare introduced the 1958 Edsel. Targeted by Ford at a perceived gap in its model range, it is unlikely that any American then over the age of three was unaware of the Edsel's impending arrival, nor unmoved (one way or the other) when its famous 'horse-collar' grille was unveiled on September 4, 1957. Both the Ranger and Pacer models were based on the 118in. Ford chassis and came equipped with massive 361ci. engines producing over 300bhp. This was the chrome era as well, and Edsel got its share, complemented by bright and sparkling color combinations that challenged a Seeburg juke box for glitz. The car was loaded with new features, not the least of which was the Teletouch pushbutton automatic transmission selector in the steering wheel hub.
Edsel is a symbol of the late Fifties. America was confident, affluent and reaching out in the world and at home as it never had before. The ability to span the continent quickly and in comfort was every citizen's right and Detroit was in the business of supplying the cars to do it. A shiny new Edsel in the driveway was a symbol of prosperity, success, power and confidence.
This Edsel Pacer Coupe is now showing 69,004 miles. It is in very presentable overall condition and is reported to be a reliable and spirited driver. The two-tone green and white interior is also in very presentable condition and appears to have been very well maintained since its restoration, however, some flexing is present on the vinyl of the dashboard. The Edsel's brightwork, bodywork and paint are also quite respectable and show only minor wear from limited use. The Pacer is complete with an attractive Continental Kit, as well as the very desirable signal-seeking Town and Country radio. It is offered with a sales brochure and model brochure on Esdels. Today, the 1958 Edsel is widely regarded as one of the most collectible cars from the decade of tailfins and chrome, with little competition to rival the distinctive timeless style and elegance.
