Château Mouton Rothschild"Premier je suis, second je fus. Mouton ne change"
"First I am, second I was, Mouton does not change"

This was the quote by Baron Philippe de Rothschild made in 1973 on being awarded First Growth status. This change corrected what he thought was "the monstrous injustice" afforded to him, when the 1855 classification awarded him deuxiemes crus status. However what didn't change was the quality of Mouton.

The quality changed long ago, when the Baron's Nathaniel de Rothschild bought the estate in 1853; originally called Chateau Brane-Mouton. It was then that the Baron made large investments in the 37 hectare vineyards and chai. However, it took over 120 years and the Baron's son, Philippe, to correct "the monstrous injustice."

Château Clerc Milon

Thirty hectares of vines, largely replanted by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, after the acquisition of the estate in 1970, form this vineyard in Pauillac. The plots are nestled between the twin giants of Mouton and Lafite, and are now bearing some exceptional fruit. The wines are true to their Pauillac soil and in the best vintages are some of the most pleasurable wines in Bordeaux.

The wines in the first part of the collection are a testimate to the quality and care Baron Phillipe de Rothschild instilled in the lands and people working at Château Mouton Rothschild and Château Mouton Rothschild. The vintages afford the collector and connoisseur an opportunity to acquire original wooden cases of these vintages in all formats from bottle to imperial, many in multi lot presentations.

This cellar is also a testimate to the collector. He is a gentleman of grand repute; enjoying these wines with friends and family for many years. He has acquired much of the wine directly on release, and much of it directly from the Chateaux.

The conditions of the cellar are also apparent in the wines. It is an underground cellar beneath a house in upstate New York. It maintains a year-round temperature of 55 degrees, and has a high natural humidity, which over time has deteriorated many of the labels.
