A SUPERB COLLECTION OF MATURE RED BURGUNDIES FROM THE 1993 VINTAGE
1993 red Burgundies have turned out far better than was initially expected. During the growing season, there had been threats of mildew damage, there was hail, and pickers had to dodge rain-storms during the harvest. This was never a blockbuster vintage, but thickly-skinned, healthy Pinot Noir grapes gave wines of character, structure, good colour and intriguingly complex, ripe tannins. They have simply needed bottle-age to shed their rough edges and put on flesh.
This collection is a roll-call of the greatest Burgundy Domaines of the past 20 years. I would love to meet this collector while enjoying any of these bottles - he strikes me as a determined, inclusive Burgundy enthusiast, with a passion for the best wines. You cannot track down these bottles easily, you have to seek out, then pay court to, the guardians of the rarest allocations.
Any Burgundy lover who hesitated to buy this vintage early on has a fabulous opportunity today, and the prices may be highly attractive.
