A notable Southern California artist, Hanson Puthuff was dedicated to the artistic movements in Los Angeles in the early 20th century and was a founding member of The Arts Students League of Los Angeles in 1906. He was also a founding member of the Painters Club, Los Angeles and the California Art Club, which is still a vibrant artist organization today. Like many artists attracted to California during this time, Puthuff was inspired by the beauty of the landscape and intrigued with the unique characteristics of light. Often traveling into the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Puthuff was in search of pristine landscape, which inspired his artistic spirit. Snowbound is a stunning artistic achievement revealing Puthuff's interpretation of the natural surroundings. He captures the majesty and awesome beauty of the great peaks, blanketed in deep snow just after a winter storm. As the title suggests, in Snowbound, one can feel the difficulty of surviving in such conditions as well as the serenity that accompany the dramatically beautiful environment.
