Sittings for James Farrer, an attorney of Bread Hill Street, Cheapside and Sterthing Fordbury, Herefordshire are recorded in the artist's pocket books for June, July and August 1795. The artist and sitter were old acquaintances since Romney in his diary records '1784, 20 July dine at Mr. Farrer's, at 4, No. 8, Bread Hill Street'.
