AN ATTIC BLACK-FIGURED TREFOIL OINOCHOE
Attributed to the Class of Vatican G47, Circa 500 B.C.
With Hermes guiding Hera, Athena and Aphrodite (to the Judgement of Paris), each walking to the right, Hermes looking back, the god clad in a petasos, short chiton, chlamys and winged boots, holding a staff diagonally in his left hand, the goddesses each in a peplos and himation, the first with a staff in one hand, the hem of her garment in the other, followed by Athena, with snakes from her aegis rising from her shoulders, holding a crested helmet in her right hand, her head turned back to the third goddess who holds a staff in her left hand, details in added red and white, bands of ivy on each side, tongues above the scene, and a band of key at the base of the neck
