FOUR NEAR EASTERN CYLINDER SEALS
Circa 1300-900 B.C.
Including three Western Iranian seals, one of banded agate with two figures seated facing each other at a table with crossed legs, each figure wearing a long robe, with a single plait of hair falling to the height of the seat, the table with a row of dots along the top, the pleiades and a lunar crescent above, the terminal a bird alighting on a tall tree, a row of dots within two raised lines above and below; one of beige stone in two registers, both with a Kassite cross alternating with a scalloped cruciform motif, the cross with a raised dot at the transept, enclosed within a line border, the cruciform motif composed of four blobs centered by a blob in one register, a circle in the other, and enclosed within a line border, with linear patterns and a scorpion in the field, the registers divided by a double line, a double line border above and below; and one of bitumen with a plowman following an ox to the right, the bearded plowman wearing a long robe, holding the plow in his left hand, a goad in his right, a large rosette above, a diminutive, similarly-clad figure above, with a fox and a rhomb in the field, and line borders above and below; together with an Elamite agate seal with a man, perhaps a king or a deity, seated to the right, the stool with a cross-hatched pattern, wearing a long flounced robe and holding an object in one raised hand, a figure standing before him holding a fan in both hands, wearing a plain robe with a bottom fringe, a table between them, a V-shape in the sky, with a four-line inscription in Middle Elamite cuneiform reading "There is life with a god, there is salvation with the king, may things go well with him, (that is with) ..kih-Shimut"
