FIVE ACHAEMENID CYLINDER SEALS
Circa 5th-Early 4th Century B.C.
Including three barrel-shaped banded agate seals, one with a bearded Persian king holding two inverted lions aloft, gripping them by one hind leg, their heads turned back, the king wearing a crown, tunic and trousers, standing with each foot on the rump of a winged sphinx; one with a bearded Persian king gripping the horns of two rampant winged human-headed bulls, their heads turned back, the king facing right, wearing a crown, tunic and trousers, a winged solar disk above; and one with a Persian king gripping the horn of a winged goat, the king wearing a crown, tunic and trousers, a sword in his lowered hand, the terminal a winged solar disk above a stylized tree; a carnelian seal with gray areas and some green inclusions, with a bearded Persian king gripping the foreleg of two rampant winged bulls with bearded and horned human faces, their heads turned back, the king wearing a crown, tunic and trousers, standing on the rumps of two adorsed lions with their heads turned back; and a calcified chalcedony seal with a bearded Persian king gripping one foreleg of two rampant winged bulls with their heads turned back, the king with his hair bunched at the nape of the neck, wearing a crown and a long fringed robe open at the front over trousers, standing on the rumps of two winged bulls with crowned human heads
