Lot Essay

S. Dick writes in 1909: 'This love of flowers is seen in the rendering of many cottage gardens...and of these studies the best of all seems to me that of the Michaelmas daisies with its background of soft greens, against which blaze the flower masses, white, pale blue, faint purple and soft reds' (op. cit., p. 282-3).
