This drawing and lot 156 are executed on brown paper; in an interview with Anthony Denselow, Hicks remarked on her use of paper 'Every Year I go down to the paper place and buy posh paper, museum conservation standard, and I get frozen by this marvellous quality. It's an interruption and a frustration and is done for the wrong reason, it makes me think of who might buy the drawing ... brown paper was good enough for Picasso and Braque, so it's good enough for me.'
