Voyage a Athénes et a Constantinople, ou Collection de Portraits, de Vues et de Costumes Grecs et Ottomans, Paris: Dondey-Dupré, 1825. 2° (580 x 435mm.). Half title, 40 hand-coloured lithographed plates by Fromentin, Motte and others after Dupré. (Plate XXVI browned and possibly supplied from another copy, some plates washed and showing through on versos, a few plates browned with short marginal tears and repairs, a few plates re-margined, some light marginal spotting and dampstaining, plate of Turkish passport browned and torn with losses). Modern red morocco gilt (covers warped, lightly rubbed).
FIRST EDITION. Blackmer 517; Brunet II, 900; Colas 916; Lipperheide 1434; Weber 130. Not in Abbey. "[Duprés] book, probably the most beautiful ever produced on Greece and Turkey, records his experiences mainly in portraits of the people he met, Greeks, Turks and Franks, as well as views of the major Athenian monuments of antiquity."
