[A Hand-Book for Travellers in Spain, and Readers at Home], [London: John Murray, 1844]. 12° (175 x 115mm.). Without preliminaries and all after p.768 as usual. Contemporary hardgrain morocco (lightly rubbed), g.e. THE RARE SUPPRESSED EDITION of Ford's celebrated handbook to Spain, one of Murray's earlier guidebooks and one that was to remain in print for the remainder of the century. It was suppressed owing to the author's extreme views on the French and on Roman Catholics. Loosely inserted is an envelope containing a small 'visiting plate', etched by Ford in Seville c. 1832.
