IV). 8° (246 x 150mm). 722 hand-coloured engraved plates only. (Lacking plates 6 and 147-194, occasional light spotting). Contemporary cloth (sunfaded and rubbed, label on vol. one missing and partly torn away on vols. III and V).

FIRST EDITION. Brunet II, 447; Nissen ZBI 1000. The plates are organized systematically by order and family, rather than numerically as issued. Each plate includes a representation of a British native plant, and in many cases the various juvenile stages of the insect.
