Madelaine Castaing was and still is greatly admired by all major historical decorators for the remarkable interiors she created such as Jean Cocteau's house at Milly le Forêt. Helen Hayes, a fashion designer during the 1980's in Paris befriended Castaing and persuaded her to part with these pieces to form the decoration of her fashion house in the Avenue Montaigne.

in the Empire style, with a pair of doors enclosing an arrangement of shelves, drawers and a central velvet lined cupboard, above a central drawer with a leather lined writing slide above a further pair of cupboard doors enclosing sliding trays - 37½in. (95cm.) wide, 60½in. (153.5cm.) high, 17¾in. (45cm.) deep
