A Satsuma baluster vase
Meiji Period
with short everted rim, painted and gilt with two overlapping panels depicting a three-quarter length portrait of a bijin and a warrior and boy attendant before a pagoda in a flowering landscape, the reverse with a further panel of a warrior on horseback on the banks of a river flanked by two further warriors on foot, all on a ground of large colourful chrysanthemums within borders of scattered daisy heads and further kiku heads in shallow relief -- 11¾in. (29.8cm.) high, signed Kinkozan.
