Edo Period (17th Century)
The black-lacquered bowl of iron for approximately two-thirds of its height and extended probably with leather to form the shape of a hitto [brush-point], to the front a vertical brow-plate cusped over the eyes and with bold eyebrows applied in lacquer, the simple Hineno-itamono-jikoro [close-fitting solid-plate neck-guard] laced with dark blue kebiki-odoshi [close lacing], slight cracking to lacquer
