Gillows of London and Lancaster supplied a closely related 'Sofa without back' to the 9th Duke of Hamilton, in October 1799. Of exactly the same width, it was upholstered with two bolsters and a squab seat and its sketch appears in their Estimate Sketch Books (Westminster City Archives).
