Circa 1758, painter's numeral 6 in brown to cover
Naturally modelled and coloured and streaked in green, yellow, puce and brown with a brown stalk and two leaves to the base, the branch handle with four leaf terminals (handle lacking)
3 in. (7.5 cm.)
Provenance
Almost certainly purchased by Thomas, 2nd Marquess of Bath (1765-1837), Longleat, Wiltshire and by descent at Longleat.

There is an example in the Schreiber Collection (Sch I. 152+1), see Bernard Rackham, Catalogue of The Schreiber Collection (1915), pl. 34, no. 259 (as Chelsea); it is mentioned in Lady Charlotte Schreiber's Journals (Vol. 1, p. 170) as being bought of Mme Gorkum in Utrecht on 4th November 1872 for 2s 6d.
