A PAIR OF LOUIS XVI ORMOLU-MOUNTED AND BRASS-INLAID MAHOGANY ENCOIGNURES

En suite with the preceding lots, each with a bowfronted triangular grey-veined white marble top above an egg-and-dart moulding and a panelled frieze drawer centred by a lozenge, above a panelled door enclosing a shelf, flanked by stop-fluted pillasters filled with chandelles and headed by barley-filled rectangular panels, on turned tapering legs headed by gadrooned collars below pinched necks, on cone feet, each marble top with old repaired breaks, one with two cut-out sections on the reverse, one inscribed 'B DRESSING ROOM' and 'BDR', the other inscribed twice '4' and with 18th 19th Century paper label inscribed in ink '79', with variations in construction and mahogany backs, with 18th Century gilded key and ivory fob

Almost certainly bought by John Alexander, 4th Marquess of Bath (1831-1896) for Longleat, Wiltshire and by descent at Longleat.
