A LATE LOUIS XV ORMOLU-MOUNTED TULIPWOOD, AMARANTH AND MARQUETRY SECRETAIRE A ABATTANT
Diagonally-banded overall, the later dove-grey marble top above a Vitruvian-scrolled frieze with a drawer and a hinged fall inlaid with a trophy of arms and with foliate patera to each corner, enclosing a fitted interior with six drawers, pigeon-holes and a green leather-lined writing-surface, above a pair of doors enclosing a shelf, each with a swagged urn, the canted angles with simulated flutes, the sides with foliate-inlaid panels, on turned tapering legs with ball feet, the rosette patera mounts, escutcheons and ball feet later, previously with a coffre fort in the lower cupboard

Almost certainly bought by John Alexander, 4th Marquess of Bath (1831-1896) for Longleat, Wiltshire and by descent at Longleat.
