THE BATTLE OF AIX -- CRUSHING VICTORY SQUANDERED.COURT MARTIAL OF LORD GAMBIER
Lord Cochrane is outraged at Admiral Gambier's excessive caution at Basque Roads and opposes a parliamentary vote of thanks to him.
In return, Lord Gambier requested that his conduct as Commander in Chief of the Channel fleet employed in Basque Roads, between 17th March and 29th day of April may be enquired into by a Court Martial, complete coverage of the trial in very fine detail [Approximately 24 full columns of space in all + 42cm. leader 4 Aug] Together with:- The 29 July 1809 issue containing A Sketch Diagram a Chart of the scene of our operations in the Basque roads (17cm x 14 cm).
